Components of Built-Up Roofs

The base sheet is the foundational layer and is usually made of fiberglass, asphalt coated organic sheet, or asphalt coated venting sheet.
Felts or fabrics
coal or tar saturated This layer is made up of organic felt, cotton fabric or burlap that has been saturated in coal or tar.
Bitumen
The most common material used for the bitumen layer is asphalt, but this can also include coal tar or lap cement.
Surfacing component
This outermost level consists of gravel, asphalt or minerals. This can also be topped with a reflective coating.

I purchased a home that has a 20+ year old standing seam metal roof. I had a small leak coming from poor chimney flashing that needed to be repaired. I was having a hard time getting anyone to come out and look at it because it was such … More a small job. When I called Beck Roofing, they were very accommodating from the get go and also offered their service to do a full roof inspection while they were there.
Upon inspection, they noticed the ridge caps were installed with improper screws causing damage and rust on the panels. They gave me a bid to repair it correctly in order to preserve the life of the roof. It ended up being a much bigger job than originally anticipated yet they did not raise the original bid price once they uncovered other issues as they were removing the caps. This is so rare these days and frankly refreshing. They honored their bid! The crews were super, and the follow up by Erik and Sandy was amazing.
